Enforce the needed laws, MCE urges assemblymen

Dr Alfred Oko Vanderpuije, the Accra Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE), has called on assembly men to enforce the needed laws that would bring about the progress of Accra.

He said as assemblymen they should be guided by the sense of purpose and perseverance to prevent the indiscriminate location of unauthorized structures and containers on pavements.

Dr Vanderpuije said this when together with some assembly members; he paid a working visit to inspect progress of some projects in the metropolis.

The tour was to enable them to effectively deliberate and adopt good management practices to enhance the development of the metropolis.

The MCE said challenges confronting the metropolis required no compromise in the enforcement of existing laws and urged the assembly members to be resolute as they enforced bye-laws.

Dr Vanderpuije said he would ride on the political will of President John Dramani Mahama and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) manifesto: “Transforming and Changing Lives of the People,” to provide effective leadership and improve environmental challenges in the metropolis.

He said education is the peoples’ right and not about politics and “I will effectively collaborate with the Ghana Education Service (GES) to implement the objectives of the Millennium City School projects initiated by the late President John Evans Atta Mills.”

He commended the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and the Chinese Embassy in Ghana for their support in providing the educational facilities.

Dr Vanderpuije said the only way Accra could move towards achieving its developmental goals is to forge ahead in unity and positive thinking and appealed for cooperation and support of for the early completion of projects.

Mr Stephen Abamfo, the Dansoman Circuit Supervisor of the GES, who took the MCE and his entourage round a completed Chinese funded project, expressed gratitude to the Accra Mayor for the visit.
