Ghanaians must stay united – Asantehene

The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has rallied Ghanaians to do everything to overcome division and accept to live in total peace and harmony.

They should never allow ethnicity, political and religious differences to tear them apart – undermine the unity and cohesion of the society.

The Asantehene made the call during a special church service held at his Manhyia Palace by the Presbyterian Church under the theme ‘Christ the light to all men”.

This formed part of efforts by the church to strengthen its relationship with the traditional authorities under its “Mission to the palace” programme.

Otumfuo Osei Tutu said Ghana had been known and won international admiration for its democracy and asked that all worked together to safeguard the progress made.

At this point in the nation’s development, it was important for the people not to take anything for granted, he said, adding that, everybody would have to act responsibly.

He encouraged religious bodies to continue to pray for the leadership of the nation to rule justly, to be truthful and to be accountable.

The Asantehene again appealed to the church to cooperate and support him to bring development to the people.

The Reverend Kofi Amfo-Akonnor, Chairperson of the Asante Presbytery, spoke of the need for tolerance and mutual respect among followers of the different religious faiths.
