More officers deployed to fight crime

Government has intensified patrols in the country following the recent spate of armed robberies.

A police officer was attacked and shot by highway robbers in the Bole District of the Northern region Sunday January 17, 2016.

The officer, who is currently receiving treatment at the Wenchi Government Hospital, was shot in the foot and beaten to a pulp by the armed robbers.

Public Relations Officer of the police in the region, ASP Ebenezer Tetteh, confirmed the incident to Class News.

Interior Minister Mark Woyongo, who spoke on the Executive Breakfast Show (EBS) on Class91.3fm Monday January 18, 2016 said more boots will be deployed on the ground to confront the robberies.

“To strengthen our security, we are introducing more checkpoints, especially in the [remote] areas. We are putting more men on patrols; we are also intensifying our patrols.”

Mr Woyongo said fighting crime is a collective effort, adding: “It’s an all-hands-on-deck [effort] because the security agencies cannot be everywhere”.
