Burkina attacks: Ghanaians must not panic – Gov’t

The deputy Minister for Interior James Agalga has stated that Ghanaians must not be apprehensive in the wake of the terror attacks in neighbouring Burkina Faso.

“It is worrying, the Burkinabes are our neighbours so if anything happens to your neighbor you should be worried…I want to assure Ghanaians that there is no need to panic”.

Gunmen on Friday stormed the Splendid Hotel and a nearby cafe after setting off bombs in Ouagadougou, capital of Burkina Faso, killing at least 25 people.

Al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM) has said it carried out the attack in the West African nation, monitors said.

The attack comes two months after gunmen killed over 20 people at the popular Radison Blu Hotel in Bamako, a popular hotel used mainly by foreigners in Mali.

Some Ghanaians have expressed worry over the attacks in the West African Sub-region.

But government has stated that adequate security measures have been put in place to forestall any terror attack in the country and have called on Ghanaians to remain calm.

Speaking on Morning Starr Monday Agalga told Host Nii Arday Clegg that there is no need for Ghanaians to panic.

“We have taken precautionary measures…I can’t explain some of the measures in this studio but adequate measures have been taken should in case that it [terror attacks] happens so people should not panic.”
