University of Cape Coast graduate drowns

A 27-year-old graduate of the University of Cape Coast rendering his National Service at a school in the Ahanta West District of the Western Region got drown in the sea on Thursday, January 14.

The body of the deceased, Mr Eric Nii Anan Akpor, has been deposited at the Dixcove Government Hospital for autopsy.

The District Police Commander, Deputy Superintendent of Police Samuel Osei, confirmed the incident to the Ghana News Agency, at the weekend.

He said the deceased, who was a National Service Person at the Atwea Junior High School, went to swim at Green Tattle Beach at Akwadae, but was swept away by the high tidal waves.

He said Mr Akpor died soon after he was rescued and brought ashore.

Police investigations are underway, he added.
