Miaso community cries for electricity

The youth of Miaso are appealing to the government to connect their community to the national electricity grid.

They threatened they would not take part in the 2016 elections should government fail to meet their request as early as possible.

Mr Kwesi Wiafe, Chairman of the Miaso Youth Association, a farming community in the Kwahu East District, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that the Miaso community has been in darkness for a very long time yet the government receives a lot of revenue from the area.

He said the Miaso market is the second biggest market in the district that supplies food stuff to other parts of the country while “the assembly collects revenue from traders.

“We want to see the revenue collected translated into development projects.”

“Our children are not getting electricity to learn and to pass their various examinations to progress in life

“Many unfulfilled promises have been made yet not even a single pole has been mounted nor a solar panel to give us access to electricity,” Mr Wiafe said.

Nana Owusu Achiaw Brempong II, Chief of Miaso, declared his support for the youth’s action, reiterating that the people would not take part in election 2016 if the government refuses to come to their aid.

He also decried the bad roads and lack of potable water in the area.

Some residents of the community who spoke to the GNA , expressed concern about high rate of teenage pregnancy in the area which they blamed on high unemployment rate and the lack of electricity in the community.
