Egbert Faibille grills Ibrahim Mahama’s witness

Egbert Faibille on Thursday cross-examined Grace Adwoa Owusu, a witness of Ibrahim Mahama, brother of President Mahama in a defamation case at High Court (7) in Kumasi.

It was the first time that Mr. Faibille was cross-examining the witness in the case.

Mr. Mahama sued Bernard Antwi Boasiako aka ‘Wontumi,’ the Ashanti Regional New Patriotic Party (NPP) chairman for defaming him during a party function at Obuasi.

He said the NPP member had stated that he (Mahama) and the President of stealing state funds to enrich themselves.

Wontumi alleged that he (Ibrahim) and President Mahama were fond of increasing petroleum prices at will and using the funds to embark on luxurious trips to South Africa.

Faibille, for about 30 minutes, quizzed Adwoa Owusu mainly on the accuracy of a transcript of the supposed recorded tape of Wontumi’s supposed defamatory remarks against the president’s brother.

Wontumi’s counsel revealed that he had not completed the cross-examination of Adwoa Owusu.

Charles Zwennes, lawyer for Ibrahim, also informed the court, presided over by Charles Adjei Wilson that he would call three or more witnesses to appear before the court to give testimony.

The judge Charles Adjei Wilson, who is determined to conclude the case within a short period, adjourned the case to February 8 and 9, this year, urging the two parties to appear before the court.

Ibrahim Mahama was in court but Wontumi was absent.
