‘Sakara fleeing competition’

Dr. Abu Sakara’s resignation from the Convention People’s Party (CPP) could be put down to his fear of competition as far as the party’s flagbearer race is concerned, that is the guess of General Secretary Nii Armah Akomfrah.

Dr. Sakara, a former presidential candidate of the Nkrumahist party, announced his resignation via a press statement from his office and declared his intention to run as an independent candidate in the 2016 polls.

“I don’t believe this has anything to do with any particular individual in the party. Delegates will gather and elect who they believe will be the next person to lead the party. Maybe it is the competition that is frightening Dr. Sakara,” Mr. Akomfrah told Ekow Mensah Shalders on Wednesday, January 6, 2016, on the Executive Breakfast Show on Class 91.3FM.

Mr. Akomfrah said the agronomist is yet to formally inform the party of his resignation, adding that Dr. Sakara, before announcing his resignation, should have approached the party for redress in case he had any grievances.

“Indeed the national chairman has met with the aspirants recently of which he (Dr. Sakara) was one. If he had a particular grievance about decisions, you can channel that to the party and if you don’t get redress then you can seek to leave the party, but many people will find it very surprising that you have not done all of this and you are seeking to run as an independent candidate,” he said.

“That tells the nation that this is something else rather than something or anything to do with the party itself,” Mr. Akomfrah noted.
