Communities appeal for repair of 20km road

Farmers in five communities in the Asante-Akim North District have appealed to the government to act without delay to rehabilitate the 20 kilometre feeder road linking the area with Agogo for smooth evacuation of their farm produce to the marketing centres.

They include Botiansa, Aberewapong, Hwehwee, Simpoa and Nanso.

Nana Kwame Nti, Krontihene of the Agogo Traditional Area, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA), that large quantity of food crops – maize, legumes, plantain, root tubers and vegetables were getting rotten because of the deplorable nature of the road.

The road, he said, had become a huge disincentive to farming on this part of the Agogo portion of the Afram plains, which had over the years served as food basket.

He stated that the area had virtually been cut off from the rest of the country, a situation, he said should not be allowed to persist.

The District Chief Executive (DCE), Mr. Paul Aweru, confirmed that the road was in terrible shape and said action had been taken to fix it.

He said the government had awarded it on contract and the expectation was that the contractors would soon move to site.
