MP: Politics not interesting turf

The Member of Parliament for North Dayi in the Volta region, Mr. George Loh, has said politics is not an interesting turf.

Mr. Loh, who is serving his first term in office as an MP, told Joy FM Saturday January 2 that “politics is not a very interesting turf.”

Mr Loh was defeated, by 27- year old Joycelyn Tetteh, in the National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) primaries in November last year.

Talking about his failed attempt to contest the seat for the second time, the member of Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee said he lost the primaries due to several factors. In his words: “You know in our political game there are lots of lies that were told and a lot of misinformation that were given to people.”

“I thought that the people will understand, but to the extent that they chose to vote in another way, I don’t have a problem; whatever I choose to do should be in the interest of the nation,” he added.

He said he presented a certain position and thought he had done far more for the people than many others, although he had been in parliament for just two years.

Asked if he would support Ms Tetteh to retain the seat for the NDC, Mr Loh said: “One of the things I’m careful to do now is not to be too much in the frontline for the simple reason that she is a new person and she has to market herself.”

“At the end of the day, we are not going into party primaries, so she must be marketed to the whole constituency, so I am careful not to be seen to be in the forefront. I will prefer that she takes the lead.”

Mr Loh stressed that he is willing to support any candidate in or outside his constituency that seeks his assistance.
