Seven collapse after drinking on Christmas Day

Seven people were rushed to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi after they collapsed following excessive intake of alcohol on Christmas Day, officials of the hospital have said.

The seven were part of 22 people who were hurried to the facility on emergency basis on December 25.

According to Dr Ernest Kwarko, a medical officer at the facility, the number, nonetheless, is an improvement on what transpired last year.

“For the period under review, between 22nd and 25 of December last year, there were a total of 31 cases of sudden collapse, out of that 12 cases of suspected drunkenness were recorded. This year the total number of sudden collapse cases reduced to 22, seven suspected to be out of alcoholic drunkenness,” he told Ultimate FM.

He advised the public not to take for granted when they spot a drunkard lying around since alcohol can kill.

He said feeding a steeply drunk person with a bottle of Coca-Cola could save their lives.
