Two persons died when a convoy of Salisu Bamba, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament (MP) for Ejura/Sekyeredumase in the Ashanti Region, got involved in an accident on Sunday evening.
The deceased included a close associate of the MP (name not known), who was said to be in-charge of the developmental projects of the MP in the constituency.
He died alongside an electrician (whose name is also not known) when a Toyota Land Cruiser they were traveling on veered off the road and somersaulted.
Mr Bamba, who expressed sadness about the horrific occurrence, told DAILY GUIDE that the accident occurred on the outskirts of Anyinasu, a town in his constituency.
According to him, about four people, who were also on board the Land Cruiser, sustained various body injuries but they have since been treated and discharged.
The distraught MP flatly denied rumours that he was seated in the same vehicle that was involved in the gory, saying “I was seated in a different vehicle when the accident occurred.”
Mr Bamba, who found it extremely difficult recounting what happened, said he and his people – including his close associate and the electrician – went to Anyinasu for a project.
He explained that he engaged the services of the said electrician to provide lights at Anyiasu, which had hitherto been plunged into total darkness.
He said after the completion of the electrification project, he and his group also watched a Christmas football gala that he had organized for the nine communities in the constituency.
He said pathetically that while they were returning to their base, the Land Cruiser on which the electrician and his close associate were travelling got involved in a gory accident.
Mr Bamba said his vehicle was following the Land Cruiser “so we rushed to the accident scene to offer a helping hand to the victims.”
He said the injured people were initially rushed to the Sekeyeredumase Health Centre and were later referred to the Ejura Hospital for treatment.
According to him, the victims were again referred to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi where the electrician and the other person gave up the ghost.
