NUGS: We’re still going to court over GETFund

Accra, Aug. 18, GNA – The National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) on Monday said it has not come to any agreement with government to drop its intention to resolve in court the impasse on the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) arrears.

In statement signed by the President of NUGS, Mr Edward Omane Boamah said no agreement has been reached with government. The statement maintained that the 411.168 billion is the exact arrears of the GETFund and gave the assurance that the necessary steps would be taken to unravel the mystery surrounding the figure.

NUGS also called on all students to pay school fees charged for the last academic year since negotiations with government were still going on.

“Full cost recovery is a betrayal of the confidence Ghanaians reposed in the government,” it said.

The statement also urged government to accelerate efforts to establish the Students Loan Trust in view of the problems students faced.
