Mr Afari Donkor, Ghana’s Former Ambassador to China and an Alumni of the University of Ghana, Legon has donated books to the Balme Library and the Economics Department of the University to enhance learning.
Presenting the Books at the Council meeting of the Alumni Association in Accra, Mr Donkor said as an old boy of the University, it is fair to acknowledge his Alma mater and his Department hence the donation of the books to the Balme Library and the Economics Department.
Speaking to the Ghana News Agency, Mr Donkor said he expects that students who read through the books at the Balme Library and the Economics Department would be inspired by his exploits in the banking field and whatever he had contributed.
‘’I have never been a class A student, I just did the best I could and then took advantage of opportunities and moved on. So you don’t have to come from a very polished background and well-endowed in terms of scholastic pursuit to enable you get on in life, but with perseverance and resilience, one can make it in life as I have demonstrated,’’ Mr Donkor said.
Mr Donkor said the book written by Mr Ebenezer Amankwah is titled ‘’Ahead of the Game; Afari Donkor in Ghana’s Financial Renaissance” .
Paa Kwesi Yankey, Chairman of the Alumni Association said as part of the Programmes of the Alumni Association, they were refurbishing the entire library and the reading rooms of all the halls on the University campus.
Mr Yankey noted that the Balme Library lacked books on Dr Hilla Limann and that the least they could do as an Alumni Association is to buy some of the books about Dr Hilla Limann to enrich the Library, he therefore presented five books about Dr Hilla Limann to the Library.
He said the Association has plans of also refurbishing the Korle Bu library as they were in deplorable state now.
Receiving the Books, Madam Olivia Akosua Kpodoe, Assistant Librarian at the Balme Library expressed gratitude to the Alumni Association and to Mr Donkor for their kind gesture to enhance learning in the University.
Dr Edward Nketiah- Amponsah of the Economics Department said there is no doubt that the books would go a very long way to inspire the faculty and the students and broaden their knowledge.
