Malawian arrested at KIA with cocaine

Operatives of the Narcotics Control Board (NACOB) in Ghana have arrested a Malawian national who trafficked cocaine into the country.

Grace Sauti Phiri was reportedly arrested at the Kotoka International Airport on Monday.

Ms Phiri was arraigned before court Wednesday for possessing narcotics drug without lawful authority and importation of narcotic drug without license from the Ministry of health.

Starr FM’s Wilberforce Asare reported that according to the Malawian national, the bag containing the cocaine does not belong to her but was given to her by a Nigerian national to be delivered to another Nigerian resident here in Ghana.

According to Wilberforce, Ms. Phiri stated in court through her lawyer that she is a civil servant and was in the country on a business trip.

Initial tests at the Kotoka International Airport revealed that the substance was cocaine. The substance has since been forwarded to NACOB for further tests.
