Assemblies must take security threats serious ahead of elections – Ntoso

Madam Helen Ntoso, Volta Regional Minister, on Thursday asked municipal and district assemblies in the Region to take all security threats seriously ahead of the 2016 general election.

She asked chairpersons of the security councils to nip all security challenges in the bud to avoid disturbances before, during and after the elections, being considered for November 2016.

Madam Ntoso was addressing the second Regional Coordinating Council meeting in 2015 in Ho.

She said indications were that some deviants might want to test the security preparedness of security agencies in the Region and asked the Assemblies to be top of their jobs.

Madam Ntoso urged them to engage the National Commission on Civic Education and civil society organisations in educating the public on peaceful elections.

She observed that the Region was relatively peaceful in 2015 and expressed the hope that the chiefs and people of Alavanyo and Nkonya would finalise a peace accord before the year ends.

Madam Ntoso enumerated some projects which have been completed and others being undertaken by the government, and charged the Assemblies to find innovative ways of increasing their internally generated funds.
