LEGAL AID SCHEME

The Ashanti Regional Secretariat of the Legal Aid Board has for the past ten months received 185 applications for legal aid . About 90% of the applicants have received free legal services from the Board, while the rest were provided with alternative forms of assistance. The Regional Executive Secretary of the Board, Mr.. Kwaku Frimpong, made this known to newsmen in Kumasi. He said the Secretariat receives between 20 and 25 cases every month. According to the Secretary, the people who earn less than the government’s minimum wage of ?2,000.00 are among those who receive legal assistance from the Board. The cases involve landlord and tenant conflicts, insurance and inheritance disputes. Mr.. Frimpong added that most juveniles who were serving various prison terms in Kumasi have either been released or sent to borstal institutions as a result of the Board’s intervention. End
