Unite behind winning candidates, NDC members urged

Members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Tema East Constituency have been urged to solidly unite behind Mr Robert Kempes Ofosuware, its elected parliamentary candidate, to ensure victory in the 2016 elections.

Mr Ofosuware, a former Metropolitan Chief Executive of Tema, emerged winner of the recently held parliamentary primaries in the constituency with 2,731 votes as against his closest contender Mr Michael Nii Abbey, who polled 1,235.

Mr Stephen Ashitey Adjei, popularly known as Moshake, an Executive Member of Tema East NDC, who gave the advice in an interview with the Ghana News Agency, said differences between supporters of the four candidates who contested for the slot must be done away with to provide a strong force for the campaign towards the main election.

Mr Adjei said the only way to snatch the constituency seat from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) was to present a united front since the party lost with only three votes to its opponent during the 2012 election with the same candidate.

He said the perception among some members that Mr Ofosuware’s contender was the favourite of Mr Isaac Ashai Odamtten, Tema Metropolitan Chief Executive, must not take centre stage during campaigning towards the election.

He said all the four candidates who contested for the slot were favourites of some people in the party but such support must be dropped after a candidate has been duly elected to represent the party.

Mr Adjei called on supporters to throw their weight behind Mr Ofosuware to ensure a massive victory over the incumbent NPP Member of Parliament, Mr Daniel Titus Glover.

He said history has shown that having divided forces in political parties lead to losing of elections, therefore, members of the NDC in the Constituency must not allow perceived differences to break the front.

He called on members to learn from political history and desist from fanning differences which could cost them the seat.
