Wassa-Mpohor Citizens Mourn Their Late Omanhene

A delegation from the Wassa-Mpohor Traditional Council in the Western Region, led by the District Chief Executive, Mr.. Anthony Aggrey, and the Abusuapanyin, Nana Sei Kuffour, has officially informed the government about the funeral of the Omanhene, Nana Kofi Adianka, at Mpohor which takes place on Saturday 1, November. In accordance with tradition, the delegation presented four bottles of Schnapps to the government. The Presidential Staffer for Chieftaincy Affairs, Nana Akuoko Sarpong, received the delegation on behalf of President, Rawlings. He described Nana Adianka as a learned, patriot, affable and a man of foresight who worked for the socio-economic and educational development of his area and the country. He said the late Omanhene was enstooled at a time when most educated people in the royal family shunned chieftaincy, because they regarded the institution of chieftaincy as the preserve of the illiterate. However, Nana Adianka accepted the challenge and gave his people selfless leadership Nana Akuoko Sarpong said the country, and the people of the Wassa Mpohor Traditional Area in particular, have lost a great leader and a patriot. He hoped that a suitable successor would be found to continue his good work. He took the opportunity to assure the Chiefs that the government will give them the necessary assistance to perform their legitimate duties, because it considers them as partners in development. A spokesman for the family, Mr.. J. B. Abban, thanked the government for the warm reception. Nana Adianka was an educationist and the First President of the Western Region House of Chiefs.
