The government has retrieved GHC200 million from companies indicted in the corruption scandal that rocked the Ghana Youth Employment and Entrepreneurial Development Agency (GYEEDA).
Employment and Labour Relations Minister, Haruna Iddrisu who announced this revealed this Friday said, notwithstanding the recovery of the monies, the companies involved would face prosecution as per the country’s laws.
He thus urged the Attorney General, who is handling the matter, to expedite action and put the companies and individuals cited in the GYEEDA scandal report before court for prosecution.
“There are outstanding issues on the provident fund to which the Attorney General is handling, including recoveries of money owed by entities to GYEEDA. I expect that my colleague the Attorney General expeditiously deal with those aspects of the issues,” he said.
Meanwhile, he said all those companies have been blacklisted from government contracts and warned the new Chief Executive of the now Youth Employment Agency, Kwabena Beechem, not to award contract to any of those companies.
“No unsolicited bid will be accepted for engagement contractually with the new Youth Employment Agency. Accordingly, all entities or companies that were indicted by the investigative report will not be afforded any opportunity to have any working relationship with the Youth Employment Agency,” he said.
He asked Mr Beechem to continue and conclude all procurement processes that have been set in motion but should endeavour to involve Members of Parliament, District Chief Executives and Regional Coordinating Councils.
“In your employment drive, give special considerations to women and persons with disabilities and other vulnerable groups,” he ordered.
