Police get equipment to ensure road safety

The Ashanti Regional Police Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD), has taken delivery of road safety devices to augment its activities.

The items, including a breathalyzer, e-road worthiness device, speed radar gun, were donated by the National Road Safety Commission (NRSC) to beef up road safety campaign by the MTTD, before, during, and after the Yuletide.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Sasu Mensah of the MTTD Headquarters, Accra, who disclosed this to the media, said the Department was committed to keeping the roads safe to protect life and property.

This was on the sidelines of a road safety sensitization programme organized for stakeholders at the Asafo VIP Bus Terminal, Kumasi, on Thursday.

The programme, organized by the MTTD, Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority, and NRSC, targeted drivers, passengers and lorry station executives, and aimed at creating awareness on road safety.

DSP Mensah gave the assurance that the Department would enforce road safety rules and regulations to the letter, to reduce the incidence of road accidents.

Mr Samuel Asiamah, the Regional Director, NRSC, said his outfit would liaise with all stakeholders to keep the roads safe for enjoyable Christmas celebrations.

Mr. Simon Scarlett Gborbidzi, the Regional Manager of DVLA advised communities to avoid setting up illegal speed ramps, since they caused accidents.
