BNI pursues teachers with fake certificates

The Bureau of National Investigations (BNI) has begun a nationwide probe into certificates of public sector teachers in the country, StarrFMonline.com has learnt.

The academic inquiry by the state security agency digs from the basic to the tertiary level certificate of teachers. Teachers, under the exercise, are required to provide original copies of their certificates from the basic to the tertiary level.

The BNI officials, according to StarrFMonline.com sources, will then demand photocopies of the original certificates from the teachers.

The exercise which has already been undertaken in some regions including, the Central region is causing panic within the teaching fraternity. It comes after a similar exercise by the Ghana Education Service.

Meanwhile, StarrFMonline.com sources within the Education Ministry say the move is part of efforts to rid the system of unqualified teachers and to sanitize the government payroll.
