Addressing the press after the inauguration of the footbridge, Alhaji Fuseini said the project was funded by both the Government of Ghana and the Government of Austria.

He said the Government acting through the Department of Urban Roads was constructing four bridges at hazardous road locations in Accra and Kumasi.

“These include Tetteh Quarshie which had already been inaugurated; Mallam Market also completed; KNUST Junction in Kumasi to be completed by December 22, 2015; and Shiashie in Accra also to be completed by January 31, 2016.

He appealed to the market women and the people of Mallam and its environs to make good use of the footbridge to avoid fatalities.

Madam Elizabeth Naa Lamley Lamptey, Queen mother, Mallam Market Women Association, expressed her appreciation to the Government for the initiative as it had saved them the risk of always crossing the highway, especially for those who carry heavy load and the aged.
