‘It’s exciting to see formidable women in media now’

The Dean of the School of Information and Communications at the University of Ghana, Professor Audrey Gadzekpo has lauded the rise of “uninhibited” women on the Ghanaian media space recently.

Prof. Gadzekpo, a feminist who has more than 25 years practical experience as a journalist, working variously as a reporter, editor, contributor, columnist, talk show host, socio-political commentator and magazine publisher/editor told Bola Ray on Starr Chat Wednesday she is “excited” about the emergence of young ladies who have positioned themselves as formidable forces.

“There are some exciting young ladies in the media these days. Women who are not inhibited at all and they are going for it,” she said.

She said it was difficult to find such large numbers of women working as journalists, editors and columnists in her days.

“Now the numbers are encouraging.”

Prof. Gadzekpo who has 20 years of experience in teaching, research and advocacy on media, gender and governance has a doctorate degree in African Studies at the University of Birmingham, U.K., a Master of Arts in Communications from Brigham Young University, Utah, USA and a Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of Ghana.
