Train children to be independent in future – Parents urged

Kyebi (E/R), Aug. 10, GNA – The East Akim District Assistant Director of Education in-charge of Human Resource Management and Development, Ms Regina Armah, has called on parents to train their children to grow up to be independent to care for themselves and their families.

By so doing, children would not return to demand anything from the few resources of their old parents, which would be sufficient for their upkeep.

Speaking at the passing out of the Ofori Panin Memorial Early Childhood Development Centre at Kyebi on Friday, she criticised the notion that, “children should care for their old parents because the parents cared for them when they were young”.

Ms Armah called on parents to assist in the development of schools by contributing towards the acquisition of teaching and learning aids and the construction of school buildings.

She called on teachers to provide children with the best learning situation to ensure all round development.

Mrs Esther Nyarkoh, East Akim District Social Welfare Officer, called on proprietors of private schools to ensure proper salary structures for the teachers they employ to retain the staff. She noted that changing staff often did not help pupils to know their teachers well to establish cordial relations to promote their education.

Mrs Nyarkoh advised owners of private schools to set aside part of their profit for in-service training especially for their staff who are not trained teachers.
