Volta Regional Hospital ready to treat kidney related ailments

The Volta Regional Hospital is now equipped to attend to all manner of kidney related ailments brought to the health facility.

This comes after the purchase of a dialysis machine with a water treatment plant for the removal of excess water and waste products from damaged or dysfunctional kidneys.

The hospital has been unable to operate the equipment due to the absence of a water treatment machine.

Dr John Tampuori, Medical Director, Volta Regional Hospital, disclosed that about nine patients with kidney-related problems were referred to the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital every month.

He was hopeful that the installation of the machine will go a long way in meeting the high demand for the services of dialysis machines.

The Asogli Queen-mothers Association, led by its Coordinator Mama Attratoh II, secured funding from GOIL Ghana Limited to procure the water treatment equipment for the dialysis machine.

The Queen Mothers Association earlier in the year lobbied D.Med Healthcare AG Limited to provide four NIPRO Surdial 55+machines to the Regional Hospital.

Mama Attratoh said the equipment would save kidney patients in the region the cost and risk of travelling to the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital weekly for medical attention.
