Man fined for illegal power connection

The Juaso Circuit Court, presided over by Mr. Fredrick Tetteh, has sentenced a man arrested for illegally connecting power to his room to a fine of GH¢ 240.

Augustine Opoku was additionally ordered to sign a bond to be of good behaviour for 12 months or serve 12 months in jail should he breach the bond.

He had tampered with the main meter to dodge payment of electricity bills.

He pleaded guilty to “using a service without authority contrary to the Public Utilities Regulation Commission Act 538”.

Chief Inspector Dennis Duku told the court that the crime was detected by officers of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), who had gone to the house of the convict to conduct routine checks.
