Volta Police Command to ensure a crime free yuletide

The Volta Regional police Command has mapped out an intelligence-led operational strategy to contain crime in the region during the yuletide.

The strategy is both preemptive and responsive and will involve a chunk of the personnel in the region.

Mr Peterkin Yentumi Gyinae, Regional Police Commander, told a media briefing on Friday that the operations was part of a national one dubbed operation: “Father Christmas”.

He said the police throughout the region will search for the criminals, locate their dens, and tackle them.

Mr Gyinae said the import of the move, involving swoops, is to disorient the criminals and make them vulnerable.

He said the police was equipped with geographical profiles with which to target the criminals.

Mr Gyinae said going along with the swoops will be the beefing up of police visibility in the communities, snap checks and more patrols.

He said the police was available to help organizations and individuals needing to move cash or other valuables.

Mr Gyinae said while the police was poised to ensure a crime free yuletide, it was important that the public cooperated by giving hints that could result in preventing or arresting perpetrators of crimes.

He said neighbours should also collaborate in ensuring security in their areas by being watchful and coordinate during attacks to reach police.

The Regional Commander said the Motor Traffic Unit will also be on the streets night and day to curtail the use of non-roadworthy vehicles and bikes and also check all kinds of infractions on the roads.

Mr Gyinae said the Regional Command shall continue its public education outreaches in churches, schools and communities.

Ebenezer Kweku Asare, Chief Superintendent, who is the Regional Police Operational Officer, said the police had already “hit the ground running” to meet the criminals squarely.
