Prof. Abbeam angered by KIA Aviation Security harrasment

The activities of aviation security have once again come under the spotlight. Travelers using the country’s premier airport, the Kotoka International Airport (KIA) are decrying what they refer to as blatant harassment.

One such victim, Abbeam Ampomah Danso, Chancellor of Abbeam Institute of Technology, who claims he was unfairly treated by aviation security took to social media to raise the issue.

Whiles he appreciated the job of the security detail in these times of insecurity and drugs, he bemoans what could potentially become injurious to the entrance of foreign investors to the country.

If such actions are not even conducted on investors, but they see it, it is as much a disincentive and could be actions that in the long term could injure investment prospects for the country.

He compared the ‘unnecessarily’ rigorous checks at KIA comparative to what pertains say at London Heathrow, where aside random checks, the rigorous once are supposed to be intelligence based.

Most of the respondents to his post expressed similar concerns even relating to extortion by officials who intentionally delay travelers with the aim to frustrate them in order to make illegal financial demands.

The call is on relevant authorities, especially airport security, to check their personnel and to ensure that people are not overly embarrassed when they arrive at airports that are supposed to be open public places.

“It is never a crime to want to travel by air, let no one make it look as such,” a frustrated traveler concluded.
