‘Vote out corrupt African govts’ – Mo Ibrahim

Sudanese-British mobile communications entrepreneur and billionaire Dr Mo Ibrahim has urged Africans to vote out corrupt governments.

“Vote them out,” he told an audience at the John Agyekum Kufuor Foundation’s 4th Global Development Lecture Series at the University of Ghana, Legon, on Thursday in Accra.

“You have the votes, go to the polls and vote them out,” he urged, adding: “Use your democratic right.”

The Global Development Lecture Series is a platform for thought leaders to share their views on governance issues and future events. The foundation is partnering institutions in Ghana and around the world to promote agriculture.

In line with that, Dr Ibrahim has said there must be more increased investment in agriculture in Africa.

“You can live without oil; you cannot live without food. So, agriculture should be sexy. It should be nice, interesting – not boring,” he told the audience.

“Food is going to be a very expensive commodity because other countries cannot produce any more food,” he said, adding that food, because of the world’s increasing population, will become “more important than oil or gas or anything else.”

Dr Ibrahim urged Ghana to take advantage of its arable lands and invest more in agriculture for the future.
