I’ll reject a ministerial position – Amoabeng

The outgoing Chief Executive Officer of UT Bank Prince Kofi Amoabeng has categorically opined he is not interested in a ministerial position, having taken a backseat position in his company.

The retired captain said he will only accept a ministerial job if the “government is ready to take my terms.”

Pressed by Starr FM’s Business Edition host Paa Kwesi Asare, Tuesday, Mr. Amoabeng said “that will be challenging.”

“I have never thought about it. I don’t think so.”

In the face of ministers being reshuffled against their wish, the fellow of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA-UK) and a member of Chartered Accountants CA (GH) stated: “If only he [Mahama] will take my terms, ‘how long will I be a minister for the party to tell me what to do’. I will do what I think is right for the Ghanaian people and I don’t think any party is ready for that kind of position so I think the answer is no.”

Amoabeng will become the president of the UT Group of Companies after 2015. He successfully established UT Bank Ghana Limited, which commenced business as a Finance House in 1997 and evolved from a lending company to a Universal Bank. It is publicly owned and actively traded on the Ghana Stock Exchange.

UT Bank has positioned itself as a lending bank that seeks to change the face of banking in Ghana through fast, efficient and respectful delivery of products and services. As one of the fastest growing banks in Ghana, UT Bank provides innovative customer oriented products and services, focusing primarily, on the financial needs of small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs).
