Techiman records 40 cases of tuberculosis this year

Techiman (B/A), Aug. 5, GNA – Techiman District recorded 40 cases of tuberculosis between January to June this year as against 28 cases for the same period last year.

The district this year has targeted to achieve 87 percent cure rate of the disease as against 67 percent achieved last year.

Nana Stephen Nketia Katapillar II, Techiman District Coordinator of the National Tuberculosis Control Programme disclosed this at a school health educational programme at Techiman.

The programme, under the national tuberculosis control programme, is aimed at sensitising students and pupils about the symptoms, effects and prevention of the disease.

Nana Katapillar reiterated that the on-going national tuberculosis control programme is aimed at preventing, capturing and curing the disease so that it would not spread to become a public health problem. He asked those who experienced persisting blood coughing to report to the nearest health centre for diagnosis and treatment.

Nana Katapillar advised workers at quarries, chemical users and smokers to be very careful about their activities. Nursing mothers should also immunise their children against the six-childhood killer diseases.
