Reconstruction of Sekondi Youth centre to cost 1.8m cedis

The 1915 youth centre constructed to improve the social and recreational lives of the people of the Sekondi /Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly (STMA) would soon be pulled down for an ultra-modern edifice.

To this end, Architectural Spring Limited had already being consulted to design and supervise the new project expected to be completed within 24 months.

Mr Isaac Aidoo, Assistant Development Planner at the STMA, told the GNA at the second stakeholders meeting that the project, which is being financed with funds from the World Bank would cost about GH? 1.7 million.

The second stakeholders’ meeting was to consolidate ideas from relevant individuals and associations to ensure that the final design and the actual construction is in tandem with the taste of the people in the area.

The proposed structure would have a 250- seater auditorium, a restaurant, meeting and counseling rooms, offices, emergency exit, forecourt, ramp for the physically challenged and internet cafe among others.

Mr Alexander Sackeyfio, an architect with the consulting firm mentioned that there is no provision for elevators since it is only three-floor storey facility.

He said already, engineers have been to the centre to take samples of the earth for testing adding: “Knowing the nature of the earth would determine the foundation of the building.”

Nana Efua Ahima II, Queen Mother of Sekondi, recommended the assembly for the initiative to give Sekondi hope again.

She advised the consultant to execute the job in good time to enable the people to maximum benefits of the new youth centre.
