4 NPP chairmen suspended over Afoko demo in Accra

Four constituency chairmen of the New Patriotic Party have been suspended following last week’s demonstration at the party’s headquarters in Accra calling for the reinstatement of suspended Chairman Paul Afoko.

The four were alleged to have played various roles in gathering the masses that stormed the party’s headquarters with various placards questioning the leadership of the party for their decision to suspend Mr. Afoko.

A letter sited by tv3network.com was signed by the NPP’s Ashanti regional secretary, Sam Payne on the recommendations of the disciplinary committee indicated that the suspension was with immediate effect.

The affected persons include Akwasi Nti of the Fomena constituency, Mr. Okai from the Ejisu constituency, I.K Brenya of the Asawase constituency and K. Dapaah.

The has been major scuffles in the main opposition NPP in recent days which has led to the death of one Abubakar Saddiq in the Asawase constituency Friday morning.

The angry constituency members who described the deceased as a brother gave the police a 24-hour ultimatum to arrest the Asawase constituency chairman or they would advise themselves accordingly.
