Court sentences reckless driver to GHc600.00 fine

A KIA Rhino truck driver arraigned for recklessness has been ordered to pay a GHc600.00 fine or serve 10 months imprisonment in hard labour.

Emmanuel Addai was additionally directed by the Kumasi Circuit Court to compensate two people – Kwadwo Sarpong and Emmanuel Gyasi, who got badly hurt as a result of his dangerous and inconsiderate driving, with GHc1,000.00.

He was convicted after he pleaded guilty to the offence.

He ran his truck into a Pontiac Vibe saloon car and the impact caused the latter to somersault, injuring occupants on both vehicles.

Police Chief Inspector Timothy Amoako told the court, presided over by Mrs. Afua Adu-Amankwaah, that the incident happened on September 08, at about 1900 hours.

He said the convict was driving under the influence of alcohol and ignored persistent protests against his speeding by one of the six passengers, on board the truck.

Addai crashed the truck into the saloon car during a failed attempt to overtake it.
