The National Democratic Congress (NDC) on Monday condemned tribal politics and personality attacks, which is gradually creeping back into the national politicking.
“The NDC as a party stands for positive development nationwide, where there is equality of opportunities, irrespective of tribal affiliation, religious inclination and geographical location, there is space for every Ghanaian under the umbrella,” Mr Joseph Ngmangnag Amuzu, NDC Northern Regional first Vice Chairman told the Ghana News Agency in Accra.
Speaking to the GNA on recent development in the Saboba Constituency of the Northern region, Mr Amuzu condemned and dissociates himself from ethnic sentiments made by some youth from the constituency.
“These kind of statements are not reflective of the all-inclusive agenda of President John Dramani Mahama and our great party the NDC, nor does it auger well for our development as a Nation and a political party.
“I wish to condemn categorically the statement by the youth and on behalf of the Traditional Authorities, Constituency Executives of Saboba, and on my own behalf, render an unqualified apology to President Mahama, the Northern Regional Minister, and the Regional NDC Chairman.
Mr Amuzu, who submitted NDC nomination papers to contest for the Saboba Constituency parliamentary primary was disqualified by the vetting committee, a development, which angered some youth in the area to make derogatory remarks about the party and some leading members, compelling him to call on the youth to render an apology to the affected leaders immediately.
He also debunked speculation that his disqualification was orchestrated by some leading members of the party.
“I wish to put on record that I received massive support from people from all walks of life during my campaign for the post of the First National Regional Vice Chairman, and I won the elections largely due to the assistance I got from both the Regional Minister and the Regional Chairman as well as other members of the party,” he noted.
He explained that the NDC parliamentary contest in the Saboba Constituency is between two Konkomba brothers, therefore for the youth to suggest that he was disqualified based on tribal agenda was misleading and unfounded.
Mr Amuzu therefore called on the youth to continue working towards a peaceful conduct of the NDC November 7, Presidential and Parliamentary primaries in an environment of unity.
