The John Mahama fun club in Bongo District has appealed to six National Democratic Congress parliamentary aspirants and their followers to desist from the politics of insults and petty squabbles.
A statement issued by Mr Patrick Anamoo, Director of Communications of the John Mahama Fun Club in Bongo, said such actions could affect the success of the upcoming general elections.
“Raining foul language and insults among you will damage the future of our party. We are therefore calling on you all, the six aspirants, to do your campaign based on your developmental policies and programmes which will help bridge the development disparities in the constituency,” the statement said.
It said as a youth group in the area, problems such as unemployment, teenage pregnancy, youth in skill development, lack of health facilities and personnel, educational infrastructures and teachers, stealing, bad road network, electricity, water and many others are among the problems facing the constituency.
The group, therefore, proposed to the aspirants to tell the people how they plan to confront the problems in the area rather than resorting to verbal attacks.
The statement called on delegates to vote for a candidate who can lobby to bring development to the area as well as win both the parliamentary seat and the presidential slot and not a selfish person who would exploit the position to enrich himself.
The group said the party has been winning in the constituency since Ghana turned to constitutional rule and gave the assurance that they would work with any candidate who emerged as the winner at the primaries to retain the parliamentary seat.
It commended the outgoing Member of Parliament, Mr Albert Abongo, and noted that his being parliament for 16 years had brought some appreciable development projects to the area.
