Akwapim North District Basic Health Insurance scheme to start in August

Akropong-Akuapem (E/R), July 29, GNA – Registration for the take off of the Akwapim North District Basic Health Insurance Scheme is expected to start in August, the District Chief Executive, Dr Eugenia Dankwa Quist has said.

She said beneficiaries of the scheme are expected to pay a premium of 1,000 cedis a week or 52, 000 cedis a year and members would start enjoying benefits after a four-month waiting period.

Dr Quist said contributors of the scheme would enjoy a benefit package of up to 400,000 cedis annually for both in-patient and out-patient attendance but if the bill exceeded the 400,000 cedis ceiling the beneficiary would be expected to pay the extra amount.

She expressed the hope that the large students population and the workers in the formal sector in the District would get on board while efforts are put in to get on board those in the informal sector.

”The scheme would have started earlier but for the determination of the membership of the technical team to place the scheme on a sound footing.”
