NDC will dump Amissah-Arthur later – Ben Ephson

Pollster and Political Watcher, Ben Ephson predicts the National Democratic Congress (NDC) would surely ignore the prospect of fielding Vice President Amissah-Arthur as a presidential candidate in the future.

Despite the enormous contributions Amissah-Arthur has brought to the party, Mr. Ephson claims he would find it tough to please members of the NDC when it comes to securing their mandate to vote for him as flagbearer.

Speaking on Peace FM’s Evening News on Tuesday, Mr. Ephson noted that “the NDC votes based on regional blocs and not ethnicity. This has been their pattern. Western-Centrals have had their president, and Northern region have also had theirs…in 2016, the party would surely look elsewhere for a flagbearer.”

“It is likely they may select him, but when you look at the pattern of the NDC’s selection, it may go to other regions apart from the Western, Central and the Northern Regions,” he added.

Mr. Ephson, however, dismissed suggestions that President Mahama may choose a new running mate for the 2016 general elections. According to him, it would take him by surprise if President Mahama decides to do the unthinkable by replacing his vice.

“There is no need to change a winning team. Amissah partnered Mahama in 2012, and they won the first round…Who else would he (Mahama) need? I would be very surprised if he changes him for someone else,” he noted.
