Police seize large quantity of drugs and detain woman

The police in Kumasi have seized large quantity of dried leaves believed to be cannabis and detained a woman suspect.

The drug, concealed in four huge traveling bags was intercepted at Trede on the Kumasi-Obuasi Highway.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Kwaku Osei Ampofo-Duku, Deputy Ashanti Regional Commander, gave the name of the suspect as Juliana Amoah.

The dried substance was being transported on a Metro Mass Transit bus from Kotokrom, a suburb of Sunyani, with the mining town of Obuasi as destination.

He told a news briefing that the interception followed a tip off, adding that, the suspect did not travel on the bus herself but used his under-age son as courier.

She was arrested after the minor told the police that he was sent by the mother to carry the stuff to a dealer at Obuasi, something, Juliana did not deny.

ACP Apofo-Duku said they would do everything to apprehend anybody linked to the illicit drug business and bring them to justice.

Meanwhile, the minor has been freed on police inquiry bail.
