JAK Foundation launches scholarship scheme

The John Agyekum Kufuor (JAK) Foundation has launched a three-year programme to offer specialised training to tertiary students in transformational leadership to ensure the excellent administration of the country to flourish democracy and development.

The programme, which targets students in Ghanaian universities, is expected to groom leaders, who are knowledgeable in their fields of endeavour, and are problem solvers, creative thinkers, innovative, and imbued with a strong sense of patriotism.

“The primary aim is to add value to formal education at the tertiary level by providing specialised orientation through programme mentorship, skills provision, and experiential activities with annual stipends,” Professor Baffour Agyemang-Duah, the Chief Executive Officer of JAK Foundation, said at the launch on Tuesday.

“It shall be a programme known for its excellence in grooming transformational leaders of tomorrow,” Prof Agyemang-Duah said.

“This is anticipated to lead to a Ghana that is peaceful, well-governed; and an economically sustainable society in Africa, where citizens are patriotic, nationally oriented, and ethically minded in all efforts of national development.”

The Kufuor Scholars Programme (KSP), as it is called, is targeted young people who have successfully completed at least the first year of their studies at the university.

The beneficiaries would receive a stipend of GH¢ 10,000 over three years and benefit from leadership mentoring, seminars, practical leadership internships, and of personal projects prior to their graduation.

The Foundation said interested young scholars would have to complete an online application form from the Foundation’s official website, and upload the required documentation by October 18, 2015.
