The GaDangme Youth Association had at the end of its second Development Forum issued a month’s ultimatum to the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) to hand over the Accra Community Centre to it.
In a communique e-mailed to the Ghana News Agency by Herbert Nii Akai Nettey, Interim Management Committee Chairman of the GaDangme Youth Forum, urged the government, as a matter of urgency, to respond to members’ concerns.
The Forum expressed its unhappiness about the continuing economic decline, rising levels of youth unemployment, limited skills training opportunities for young people, rising levels of urban poverty.
It expressed concern about some of the unfulfilled campaign promises of the National Democratic Congress-led government in the run up to the 2012 elections as contained in their Manifesto.
“Believing that the solutions to our deep seated crises lie with young men and women of Ghana, harnessing and utilizing the resources at our disposal in an equitable manner.
“Convinced that the GaDangme Youth Association which provides a common platform for action for the youth is necessary for effective advocacy for equality and national development,” the communique stated.
The Forum said: “We hereby adopt this Communique as an affirmation of our commitment to collective action and as an agenda of minimum demands for action on youth equality and equity in Ghana.”
“We demand our due to the recruitment and appointment to public office to reflect regional and gender balance per the constitutional requirement.”
It also urged the Ghana Education Service to review the placement of trained GaDangme teachers, and post them to teach the language in the GaDangme areas.
It urged the government to fast-track the establishment of landing sites in Jamestown and Teshie, as highlighted in their Manifesto to create employment for the youth.
“We urgently call for a Committee of Enquiry to investigate untoward public land dealings in the past and sanctions applied against identified miscreants.
“Unconditional handing over of the Ada Songhor Lagoon – (Site for Salt Winning) to the people of Ada without any further delay. Immediate return of the Asutsuare lands to the allodia owners,” the communique noted.
It called for the repealing of the Land Development (Protection of Purchaser) Act 2, of 1960.
“This law that applies to lands in only Ga areas are discriminatory, obnoxious and repugnant to good conscience. In fact this Act is responsible for the proliferation of land guards,” it added
