Spain’s support to Ghana has been laudable – Kufuor

Accra, July 25, GNA – President John Agyekum Kufuor on Friday said the restoration of financial assistance by Spain to Ghana enabled government to improve on social services, education and provision of potable water to the people.

In addition, the restoration of the assistance that was withdrawn about five years ago had tremendously improved the relationship between both countries.

President Kufuor said this when he received the Credentials of Mr Jorge Montealegre Buire, Ambassador-designate of Spain to Ghana at the Castle, Osu.

He reiterated government’s commitment to open an embassy in the Spanish capital, Madrid, soon and appealed for more assistance from the Spanish government in solar energy and water sectors.

Mr Buire pledged to ensure improvement in the agricultural, fishing and salt industries where there have been negotiations with the Ministries of Finance and Economic Planning and Trade, Industry and President’s Special Initiative (PSI) for assistance.

He gave the assurance that the relationship between both countries would be improved.
