Accra, July 24, GNA – Parliament on Thursday paid tribute to Mr Joseph Bidault Yegbe, former member of Parliament for Avenor Constituency in the Third Republican Parliament, who died on March 27, this year, aged 70.
Mr Yegbe, who was in Parliament on the ticket of the defunct United National Convention in 1979, was among political appointees, who were detained after the overthrow of the Limann Administration.
On his release from detention he went back to the Ministry of Education and rose to become Director of Basic Education and later the Principal of the then Specialist Training College before retiring in April 1994, after a glorious and dedicated service.
A tribute read by Mr Edward Doe Adjaho, the Minority Chief Whip and MP for Avenor, said Mr Yegbe for several decades dominated the local political scene in Avenor and his death had marked the end of an era of old politicians from the constituency.
The MP for Keta, Dan Abodakpi said Mr Yegbe was an accomplished person and played major roles in the development of Akatsi District, adding that he left great footprints of what he did and the younger generation should emulate him.
Mr Kwadwo Baah-Wiredu, Minister of Education, Youth and Sports, commended the Mr Yegbe for his contribution to the development of education as well as the Ghana Education Service. “He was a role model, a leader as well as a politician, who must be emulated” and suggested that a school in the Akatsi District be named after him.
