GHA Workers to Embark On Nationwide Strike Action If…

Workers of the Ghana Highways Authority (GHA) have threatened to embark on a nationwide strike action if management failed to sign their Collective Bargaining Agreement and Conditions of Service yesterday, July 21.

In a statement headed “Final warning” issued in Kumasi last Friday, the workers said their patience had run out and would not entertain any further delay.

It said: The entire workforce of GHA would, without any further delay, embark on a nationwide strike action if management is unable to take a firm decision to meet our demands.”

The workers declared that they would not compromise on their position if the management dared postpone the implementation of what is due them to improve upon their salaries.

The aggrieved workers said they would no longer countenance the signing of the Collective Bargaining Agreement and Conditions of Service without the salary component.

The workers have accused management of deliberately delaying resolution of their demands in line with proposals of the Collective Bargaining Agreement and the implementation of the Ghana Universal Salary Structure (GUSS).

Since May this year GHA workers have protested against management’s failure to implement the Collective Bargaining Agreement, which includes negotiations on salaries, wages, and end of service benefits.

They said the management had also failed to get salaries and wages switched from the Controller and Accountant General’s department payroll to a self-accounting system promised the workers some two years back.
