CEPS destroy unwholesome products

The Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) on Thursday destroyed a large quantity of seized unwholesome food, expired products and illicit materials running into millions of cedis, in Kumasi.

These included pornographic materials, junk meat, fruit juice, edible oil, shower gel, pharmaceuticals, cornered beef, biscuits and chocolates.

They had been seized at various Customs checkpoints in the Ashanti Region since the start of the year.

Mr. Johnson M. Yankey, the Public Relations Officer (PRO), said they would continue to remain vigilant to protect the health of consumers.

In line with this the Division had mounted a strong market surveillance to make sure that products on the market were wholesome and met quality standards.

He reminded consumers to properly examine products including drugs to satisfy themselves of the quality and the expiry date before buying them.

He cautioned those trading in illicit and banned goods to reform in their own interest.
