Zuarungu cell break: Police re-arrests two out of four escapees

The Zuarungu police command has rearrested two out of the four remand prisoners who broke cell Sunday night.

Starr News’ Upper East regional correspondent Edward Adeti reported the prisoners managed to escape with ease because the cell at the station is not well secured.

He said the Zuarungu community was thrown into a state of fear, having learned the hardened criminals were out on the loose.

“It happened overnight and the entire community and the police are looking for them.

“I am personally not surprised because there are massive cracks in the walls of the cell so it appears quite easy for anyone who is intended to break it and escape,” Adeti reported.

The two, identified as James Abito and Baaba Adombre, were re-arrested together with two other people; an unidentified couple, who are believed to be accomplices.

They had a ton of locally manufactured weapons on them.

Abito and Adombre have been taken back to the police station and charged with unlawful possession of firearms in addition to their earlier charges.
