NLA presents GH¢ 100,000 cheque to kidney patient

The National Lottery Authority on Tuesday presented a cheque for GH¢ 10,000 to Mr Kenneth Odamtten to undergo a kidney transplant in India.

Mr Odamtten, 27 years old, who dropped out of the Wisconsin University at level 200, was diagnosed with End State Renal Diseases and requires an amount of $40,000 to undergo surgery.

Mrs Kesewaah Dolplyne, Corporate Communications Manager of the NLA, who presented the cheque, said the donation was part of the Corporate Social Responsibility of the NLA to restore life of the citizenry.

She said the health of the Ghanaian citizenry was important to the Authority, adding that as the citizen’s remained healthier, they promoted the development of the country.

Mr Rowland Lamptey, Uncle of Mr Odamtten, who received the cheque, said the last test conducted by the specialist at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital indicated that Mr Odamtten was left with a three per cent kidney life to survive.

He said the diagnosis started six years ago with some wrong treatment, until recently when it was detected that his kidney was affected by the treatment.

Mr Lamptey said the money received from the NLA would go a long way to help Mr Odamtten in the surgery process and thanked the Authority for the gesture.

He said the NLA was the first institution to donate to his nephew and called on other organisations to emulate the example to help restore life of Mr Odamtten.
