Chief appeals for regular flow of water

Nene Kanor Atiapa III, the Mankralo and acting President of the Great Ningo Traditional Council, has appealed to government to provide the area with regular flow of pipe-borne water.

He said the irregular flow of water in the area makes children get to school late because they have to go in search of water, adding “This is not helping in teaching and learning.”

Nene Atiapa made the appeal at a grand durbar during the celebration of this year’s Ningo Homowo Festival of the chiefs and people of the traditional area at the weekend.

The Homowo is to hoot at hunger and celebrated by the Ga-Dangme indigenes in the Greater Accra Region.

Nene Atiapa further appealed to government to construct a sea defense wall to protect the town from the strong waves, which has claimed a number of houses and rendered people homeless.

“Our roads too are of no exception since some portions have developed potholes. This has prevented commercial drivers from plying the area and created difficult situation for traders,” he said.

Nene Atiapa called on the government to provide their portion of the percentage in the 6,000 acres of land acquired for the construction of the affordable houses in the area.

Nii Laryea Afotey Agbo, the Greater Accra Regional Minister, assured that the government had heard the cry of the people of Ningo and that the sea defense wall had started at Ada and would soon reach the area.

He said as far as there is a regular flow of water in areas like Kubekro, Katamanso, Zenu and some other areas, it would not take long for the water problem of Ningo to be solved.
