Pollster Ben Ephson is cautioning the Member of Parliament for Ningo-Prampram, Enoch Teye Mensah, not to be too anxious of defeating his political opponent, Same George, in the National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) upcoming Parliamentary primary scheduled for November 7, 2015.
According to Mr. Ephson, who is also the Editor-In-Chief of the Daily Dispatch newspaper, the expansion of the party’s Electoral College to cover all biometrically registered members may go against the re-election of the incumbent MP.
In his analysis of the 2012 general elections of the area, the Pollster enumerated how the creation of the 46 new districts nearly caused the former Youth and Sports Minister’s defeat.
Mr. Ephson told Fiifi Banson in an interview on Kasapa 102.3 FM on Wednesday that the incumbent’s contribution to have Prampram as the District Capital of the twin-town brought enmity between him and the people of Ningo.
“If you look at the 2012 elections, because of the creation of the 46 additional districts, around 7000 NDC supporters voted for the NPP candidate and voted for John Mahama. If the same 7000 harbour the same ill feeling against E.T. Mensah, that he was the reason why they did not get the district, and if these people are registered members biometrically, E.T. will be hot,” he noted.
He added, “E.T. has been around for some time, but the expansion of the Electoral College has made the game very tricky”.
In his view, Sam George, a Presidential Staffer, has a chance of winning the contest if Mr. Mensah does not make amends with his relationship with the 7000 party faithful that voted against him.
Mr. Mensah had already signaled of teaching his ‘boy’, Sam George, some political lessons for contesting him.
In his view, without his support, Sam George will never win the seat.
He is wondering why the Presidential Staffer, a boy he claims he fed, will stand up against him at a time he needed him most.
Sam George, on the other hand, has advised the veteran politician to retire honourably but not re-election because the defeat will be too humiliating to handle.
Mr. E.T. Mensah has served as MP for the area since 1993.
